THEY LOST!!!

Okay Raptors, listen up. I realize you had a good pre-season, however it does not matter what you do along the way, it is the final result, this is true in most things in life.

If your goal was to have perfection in the pre-season you did not achieve it. True 7/8 is pretty good, but it is just pre-season. True you had a lot of readjusting with minor injuries, but next week it becomes real.

If you would like, I will gladly accept one of the new $1500 courtside seats & help coach you :)

So excited about basketball season beginning next week & of course I have to have exams at the beginning of it!

The beginning of the season is always interesting, everyone is tied for last & you have to earn being first by winning, good luck!

Save the Environment!

Tomorrow some of us switch our clocks back 1 hour, but the time we do it, & even the date that we do it at has been changed before!

That's right, daylight savings time, which really this year means an extra hour of partying (with people dressed up as something or another) is back!

So currently we observe daylight savings time from the last Sunday in April to the last Sunday in October

HOWEVER: Starting in 2007, we will be observing daylight savings time from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November!

This gets even more interesting due to the fact that time is under provincial/territorial jurisdiction, so not all provinces follow the same system

We had a leap second to begin the year, will be having a leap year soon, it's all so exciting!

So remember, the main purpose of daylight saving time is to save on energy! Speaking of saving the environment, we are wasting a lot of paper, stop it! Use both sides when printing & recycle!

Abortion Debate

As I continue studying for midterms, I follow the news & learn more details about some of the cases that I am reading.

An interesting one came up which was on the abortion issue. While avoiding such typical discussions of murder & special cases I wondered what the rights of both parties are (the man & the womans)

For example, if we have the technology to have the whole process completed in a lab, as opposed to inside a womans body, & the woman wanted the abortion & the man didn't, does the man have the right to the decision of which medical procedure is completed?

I couldn't find the answer.

Life Imprisonment

Varying from country to country, sometimes seen as an alternative to the death penalty, other times meaning the maxmium time allowed in the country.

Recently, the former Enron CEO was sentenced to 24 years in prison.

Is this justice?

Clearly an example had to be set after the largest corporate scandal to date, however will this actually serve as a deterrent from future similar crimes?

Or, will this serve to have better systems in place to make sure you don't get caught.

Or worse, will this make the choice easier to cover something up by killing those who find out.
The average age for CEOs is 50, so 20 years in prison is the rest of your life, whereas if you killed someone, maybe they won't find out about the fraud.
And if you get caught for the murder, well the sentence will be around the same.

Wikiality

Genius! Among one of the shows I watch, the rare chance I get to, are Jon Stewart & Stephen Colbert, they mentioned a website & I checked & it's actually real!!!

http://www.wikiality.com/

What a day!!!

I realize i've been ranting/raving a lot recently, probably because of the hecticness of midterms/assignments being due

So anyways, on a more positive note

THE RAPTORS ARE 4-0!!! THAT'S WHAT WE CALL UNDEFEATED!!!!!

Okay, so it's the pre-season, so not every team plays there starters, but this is exactly what this almost brand new roster needed! This is half way through the pre-season.

Anyways, it was a good day otherwise because I finished an assignment & then class finished early!

But...and this is on a very serious note, one of Duke's players, a co-captain for this year, is out of play for approximately 4 - 8 weeks, the team was recently ranked second in their conference, however this means there will have to be someone else starting when the season begins. I'm sure it'll be okay, Coach K will find a way to keep things up to the Duke standard.

Punjabi XP

With todays technology, we are able to be updated on news from all over the world as soon as something happens.

This is great, except for how competitive things have gotten. There is a race to publish information about something that it no longer matters how much or how little you know about something, or even if it's true.

And then, for some reason, the media needs to update us on the latest celebrity gossip or the most random story they can find, but hey they have to do something to keep the fans

One such story fell into my inbox today (thanks Adeel for the link) & I wanted to comment on it: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/6047262.stm

Basically what this article is saying is that some rich guy wanted to invest in something & share the Punjabi XP with others

Oh & for those that are wondering, Slovakia (the country of the airline this guy bought, is in Central Europe, there's like 5 million people there, there a part of the EU, it's around the Czech Republic, Austria, Poland, Ukraine part of Europe, just look at the map!)

In the past flying on Air Slovakia got some of the following comments: "very poor service, very cramped, not enough leg room, staff rude, food poor"

What is this Punjabi XP, well it is having the experience of being in Punjab in the air

"Our stewards, airhostesses will be from Punjab as also the in-flight food"

What he conveniantly leaves out is the rest of the Punjabi XP (yes I was thinking about editing the AIESEC XP)

1) Obviously everything will be negotiable - from flight tickets, to flight times, to how many bags you can bring, in fact, if the seats sell out & you can negotiate well enough, you may be able to stand your way to your destination

2) No regard for time - you will leave the airport when they are good & ready. The time printed on the ticket is a rough estimate, sometimes the airplane is running late, sometimes the pilot isn't there yet, listen, you'll get to where you need to go eventually

3) We will be stopping by any country on the way to your destination if your friend/family member needs to get dropped of, it's the least we can do

4) The on flight buffet will feature many dishes, you can enjoy this while watching your 3 hr Bollywood movie & trying to marry off your kids on the flight.

5) Lastly, this will be government owned, so any complaints will be a waste of your time.

I could go on with having animals on the flight, to the colours/music, but I think you get the point. To get the Punjabi XP feel free to go to Punjab, there you'll find many people living in poverty, who would have loved that estimated $30million, but you can fly over them & enjoy the Punjabi XP.

Side Note: "using regional headquarters based in the Punjabi city of Jalandhar"

Gmail sucks!

For the conveniance of having 2.8Gb of space & having your emails saved as conversations you have to put up with hours of loading time!

And to make things worse, you have to keep things as they want them (little or no customization) EDIT: I found the function to get rid of chat, maybe it'll actually load now!

Then you have your friends/family, who probably all have gmail by now, & they send you a 1 word or 1 line response to your email, because what the hell I have 2.8Gb of space, but wait, let's try & send a large file, say 10mb or more, wait sorry, can't do that, but i'll load for half an hour & try, oh & sometimes i'll have sent it but you'll still get an error that it wasn't send, hopefully the person you sent it to won't mind

And of course, it is still in beta mode, because it is not a complete email system.

Here's another idea, instead of coming up with random junk, why not fix your current products?

I would recommend using outlook or any other system like that, not only can I send/receive from numerous email addresses at once (I use 4), it loads so much faster & sends the files I need it to

Note: yes I still use my gmail account, but I check the emails sent to it from outlook.

My Calculator

This is (one of) my calculator(s)

The reason I am posting about it, is being unfortunately it isn't working too well right now, hopefully it just needs to have the battery changed, this calculator has been with me for almost 8 years & has been to 5 countries!

Karwa Chauth

My mom is fasting today, click here to learn why, but basically, she is fasting for the long life of my dad. The reason I am blogging about it, is because I am curious to know how many people think it's okay to fast for such a purpose. I remember some people sharing views of not fasting unless the guy fasts as well, or not fasting at all out of protest of such a sexist festival. Interesting how religion still has a large role in what are cultural norms, as more people become spiritual, I wonder what the norms will be.

Have you been watching???!!!

IT'S BACK!!!

After months of waiting, a long off season full of changes (new players, new jerseys, new management, new ball)

THE NBA HAS BEGAN!!!

Here's a recap of what you missed:

Things started on Thursday with a bunch of international games, there's a big focus on playing against more European teams, to help make basketball a more international sport & to hopefully have team USA up to the European level (it used to be the other way around but now things are different with younger players, higher salaries, more endorsements, more time off due to injuries)

So far the NBA teams won 4 times & the European teams won 2 times

Tomorrow is the Raptors preseason opener and then it all begins. Now, preseason does not mean too much, as usually you don't play your star players as much as you normally would & you let your rookies play more often than they will otherwise, but it is finally the return of basketball on tv, & live updates online!!! The international aspect continues with teams playing outside of their normal courts.

Then, October 31st, Halloween (which means if you punk kids come to my house to disturb me watching the games I will attack) there are the first 2 games of the season!!!

College Basketball also begins at the end of this month, there are other sports going on right now, but really, who cares???!!!

BUT, this month is really busy with midterms/assignments due & a lot of peoples birthday

Update: My cousins came over & we went & rented some basketball video games (because he wanted to, he's a pretty big fan also) we rented both an NBA & an NCAA game. People have been coming over like all weekend because it is a long weekend here in Canada!

My own brother!!!

My brother has gone to the dark side. I had to accept this from friends, colleagues, random jerks, but now my own brother has gone & done it!

What did he do? He bought a Mac! See the following to learn why this was a huge mistake!

Also, random story, I was in the subway & the announcement goes on saying that I would have to go on a street car to some other station & can then continue taking the subway becaus eof some problem at one of the stations. But then a minute later they said the problem has been fixed & they would go right through. Then he added, that this was our lucky day & to remember the train operators when you win the lottery. Very small thing, very random, made us all smile.

12 in a row!!!

That's right, it happened again, York beat UofT for the 12th time in a row at our football match. This is probably the first you heard of this, but the football culture in Canada varies university by university. York & UofT has a huge rivalry (on more than just sports), & I usually don't care, but I find myself there or at Ryerson if I am downtown anyways. For the internationals, that funny looking ball is called a football, that round thing you kick around, that's a soccer ball, that orange one that we bounce around & throw into a net on a pole, that's a basketball (training camps are beginning, then it's pre-season!!!)
