I went on the train for the first time that I can remember, 18 hours long!
I was told to not talk, since people would be able to tell i'm a foreigner, Kurt didn't think I could keep quiet for that long! I had to talk when I was asked to show my ticket & then someone who knew english asked me where i'm from.
My answer? Canada. Followed up with I was born in India though. That's right. I said it. He asked what was doing in Pakistan & why I was headed to Lahore & I said... WELL, I work with this NGO called AIESEC!!! (I was wearing an AIESEC shirt!)
After a while, he called his son out to also hear me talk about AIESEC & then 2 other people introduced who also knew english introduced themselves to me & asked me to continue. It was a little speech! Eventually I was finished, & then I kept talking to the 2 new people for the rest of the trip. When we stopped somewhere we got off the train to get water, the person didn't let me pay! Then when we stopped in Hyderabad the other person got mangoes & said I HAD to try it. THEN when we ordered dinner & it was time to pay, it was already paid for!!! This is something i'm NOT use to at all, but this is someone I JUST met! I now have 1 of there cell phone numbers, the one who was closer to my age (other people have mine & my email address, hopefully I won't get people messaging me to make friendship), his name is Mustafa, & I'm calling him sometime when I get back to Karachi to go to a wedding or something! Oh, while we were talking he mentioned staying at his Mamoo's house & I thought about AIESEC Karachi new nickname for me (Pnut Mamoo)
This also reminded of someone else I had to call, then I missed Zazu & Pam. Then I got the most surprising phone call. Marina, Nima, Sam & Isabel, got a phone card & called me! Now it was 1:30am & I had VERY little sleep on these small coushins after picking Joanna up from the airport after 4:30am (don't worry i'm just the CEED) but I was SO happy to hear these voices that I recognized. The connection wasn't great so there was a delay in them hearing me, but I was seriously holding back tears. Thank you guys SO much!!! I wasn't home sick at all since coming, but at that moment I missed people from Canada SO much.
Overall the train wasn't bad, not as efficient as it could be, but i'm here & I have meetings to get to!!!
Lastly, I miss the triangle/pakola brothers, but fear not, there is pakola available on campus so my pakola per day consumption will remain constant & I will be back in a week!
