2007...

Going into the library for the first time in about a month felt a little different, looking around it seemed the exact same as I remember it, but even that is different from how it was when I came into this library the first time ever.

With "You" being selected Time Magazine's Person of the Year, it shows how much people have taken control of what they do, from news (digg.com) to what we watch (youtube.com), to the way we interact (myspace.com/facebook.com) the world is different.

Walking into the library you clearly see this. From beginning my university career & the "quiet study area" being a silent place to do your work, to continuing now & the key code accessible graduate study area having students who are talking away while they visit some of those sites on their laptops, discussing music they are listening to on their ipods or taking whichever call they get on their cell phones.

Since when did we have so much disposable income that our generation of students has all of these things, maybe it's because the high cost of university requires most students to work, & thus the little savings we could otherwise have is spent on acquiring such things.

I am no different, I use some of these websites, I have some of these things, but that's definitely not what I go to the library to do.

With that being said, if early indications are anything this should be a great year!

Global Warming has greatly changed things, I wonder if that or retiring baby boomer's will play a bigger role in society this year...
